Fort Lauderdale Police Department Challenge Coins

The Fort Lauderdale Police Department is responsible for a city encompassing more than 33 square miles and a population of more than 180,000 people. Just like all law enforcement offices, the police in Fort Lauderdale train hard and dedicate their lives to the protection and service of the citizens in their precinct. Sworn officers have the potential to be thrown into harm's way on a daily basis, so each man and woman in the force needs unquestionable courage and the confidence to handle any circumstances.

Florida challenge coins are commissioned by police departments all over the state to help teams form cohesive bonds and to reward excellence in service within the departments. Custom artwork of the city of Fort Lauderdale as well as department codes, mottos, and emblems add to the meaningful weight of the coins and ensure that officers will carry them with pride and a sense of fulfillment.

Signature Coins has been crafting police challenge coins for over 15 years. We take special care in coin construction because we understand that our coins will be used to represent the courage, commitment, and honor of the service members of our nation. Years of experience have given us a unique understanding of the selfless and indispensable service provided to our nation by law enforcement teams. Ensuring that our coins do justice representing those teams is a top priority.

Custom Fort Lauderdale Police Department challenge coins incorporate design cues that reference the incredible heritage of the police force and the city. Artwork also includes famous landmarks and cultural sites that have molded the character of the city. Follow one of the links below to get started of your custom coins now!

History Fort Lauderdale and Its Police Force

The city gets its name from a military fortification constructed along New River during the Second Seminole War in 1838. Major William Lauderdale led a troop of volunteer fighters south along the east coast of Florida to capture Seminole agricultural lands.

In was not until March of 1911, however, that the city was officially formed and the first law enforcement official was named. The earliest iterations of the Fort Lauderdale police department supervised and aided in the widening of the main highway to Miami, Dixie Highway, helped the city with traffic control, and expanded along with the city’s population over time. In 1924, the department only housed 2 officers but two years later the Fort Lauderdale police department was represented by 26 officers.

The department distinguished itself as an asset to the city in times of crisis like the Hurricane of 1926 all the way to Hurricane Andrew in 1992. In the 1970s, the department's Community Service Aids (CSA) program was started, and was the first of its kind in the entire country. Around 35 civilian personnel were hired into the department and trained to handle accidents and non-violent police reports. Today it is known as the Public Safety Aid program but has almost the same responsibilities and goals.

The department is in charge of service for the Fort Lauderdale International Airport, has its own municipal jail, and is a proven innovator and protector in the realm of law enforcement.

Custom Fort Lauderdale police department challenge coins honor the humble beginnings of the department and celebrate the amazing achievements that they have earned over the years. Custom artwork has the potential to call back to the military encampments from the Second Seminole War of the city’s namesake or reference the incredible landmarks of today. The beautiful coastal view and intricate canal system that has earned the city a nickname as “The Venice of America” is one of many ideas for original design.

Custom Challenge Coins Made Easy

Fort Lauderdale Police Department challenge coins derive their value from the inclusion of personal and meaningful custom artwork. Officers who hold them in their hand will immediately feel a connection to the city’s character and spirit.

Signature Coins has all of the tools needed for crafting compelling and original challenge coins. We do not use any stock images or template designs. Everything we make is unique and customer center. Everything from artwork to coin material is controlled by our clients. To see a comprehensive list of customizable features in coin construction, take a look at our pricing page!

A few of the aspects of design you will be able to control include:

  • Size and Shape
    • Most of our clients prefer a medallion style design, however, we can work with any specification you may have. Police departments have ordered shield and star-shaped coins from us in the past, as well as multi-purpose coins that incorporate bottle openers or screwdrivers into the design.
  • Color
    • We use the Pantone Matching system to ensure consistency across all mediums. This means that existing department artwork can be recreated with perfect accuracy while making custom challenge coins. Think of it like picking our paint chips at a hardware store. We will take color codes and match everything in design.
  • Material
    • We use metals like zinc, brass, and steel to promote dexterity and longevity. Strong metals aid in scratch resistance and help your coins maintain their smooth edges and crisp features. We also have multiple plating options that can change the look of designs entirely.

These options, and many more, are all at your disposal when working with Signature Coins. We strive to give you every opportunity possible to create something completely unique that translates into a product with emotional weight. Officers who received custom Fort Lauderdale police department challenge coins are sure to carry them with pride and display them with honor as badges of distinction.
